About Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar Yoga is for everyone. No one is too stiff, too out of shape, too large, too thin, too weak, or too old for Iyengar Yoga. Using precise physical alignment as a starting point, Iyengar Yoga encourages the spread of intelligence throughout the body, the growth of self-awareness, and an experience of the asanas (postures) as a form of “meditation in action.” Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers know how to guide students of all ages and abilities. A deep-seated understanding and experience of the asanas (postures) allow instructors to teach appropriately to the group in front of them, whether they are younger, older, athletic, or have physical limitations.

Experience the joy of practicing Yoga in the comfort of your home.

About Edwin

I am an Iyengar Yoga Certified Teacher (CIYT) - Level 2. I founded Yoga That, an Iyengar Yoga studio in Miami Beach, Florida, in 2012. I have relocated to Palm Springs, California, with my husband, Nicholas.

I have visited India to study with Geeta and Prashant Iyengar and have studied with Abhijata at the IYNAUS conventions as well as online from Pune. My first teacher was Mary Dunn at the New York Iyengar Yoga Institute, and my current teacher is Matt Dreyfus.

My teaching style is warm, caring, and step-by-step. Iyengar Yoga welcomes all body types, ages, and physical situations. As a teacher, I always give variations and options for my students. Yoga is for everyone and in my experience, if you do it consistently, you will feel better. This is our dog Lucca and he does a lot Yoga.

Why should I start doing Iyengar Yoga?

There are many mental and physical benefits of doing yoga that make it worth trying. For one, it can decrease stress and relieve anxiety. Studies show that yoga reduces cortisol secretion, the body's primary stress hormone. Studies also found that yoga may help protect against certain diseases associated with chronic inflammation and improve heart health by lowering blood pressure. Furthermore, yoga can improve quality of life by addressing mood, fatigue, and even pain. Case studies show that yoga increases melatonin secretion, a hormone that regulates sleep and wakefulness. Finally, yoga is excellent for your physical strength and abilities. Yoga can increase strength by building muscle and endurance. Yoga can also help with breathing, as we practice breathing techniques during sessions.
