About Iyengar Yoga ~ Iyengar Yoga is for EVERYBODY!
No one is too stiff, too out of shape, too large, too thin, too weak, or too old for Iyengar Yoga.
Using physical alignment as a starting point, Iyengar Yoga encourages the spread of intelligence throughout the body, the growth of self-awareness, and an experience of the asanas (postures) as a form of “meditation in action.” Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers know how to guide students of all ages and abilities. A deep-seated understanding and experience of the asanas (postures) allow instructors to teach appropriately to the group in front of them, whether they are younger, older, athletic, or have physical limitations.

Iyengar Yoga is a great choice.
With so many options of different methods and styles of yoga, why choose Iyengar?
-
Iyengar Yoga is accessible to everyone. No matter what your age or physical condition may be, you can benefit from Iyengar Yoga.
-
Iyengar Yoga places the focus of the practice on correct anatomical alignment. This practice makes each pose healthy for the bones, joints, and muscles.
-
Iyengar Yoga makes all the poses safe and accessible with the use of props. No matter what your capabilities or limitations might be in any given posture, Iyengar Yoga teaches you how to work with props such as belts, blocks, blankets, bolsters, walls, chairs, ropes, and more to help you reach a deeper place in all of the postures.
-
Iyengar Yoga teachers must complete many years of a comprehensive and rigorous training and certification process. This training, which is far beyond the simple 200 hours of most yoga training programs, allows Iyengar Yoga teachers to recognize and address every student's individual needs.
-
Iyengar Yoga helps students attain greater flexibility, strength, healing, and deeper consciousness levels by teaching students to repeat and gradually hold postures for more extended periods.
-
Iyengar Yoga encourages and provides the tools necessary for students to begin and continue with a home practice. Home practice is essential to a more profound yoga practice.
-
Iyengar Yoga is well known for its many therapeutic health benefits. With regular practice, students have targeted many ailments, injuries, and disorders. These have included back, shoulder, hip pain, chronic stress, high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression.
Why should I start doing Iyengar Yoga?

There are many mental and physical benefits of doing yoga that makes it worth trying. For one, it can decrease stress and relieve anxiety. Studies prove that yoga reduces the secretion of cortisol, which is the primary stress hormone. Studies also found that yoga may help protect against certain diseases caused by chronic inflammation, as well as improve heart health by lowering blood pressure. Further, yoga can help improve quality of life by helping with mood, fatigue, and even pain. Case studies show that yoga increases the secretion of melatonin, which is a hormone that regulates sleep and wakefulness. Finally, yoga is excellent for your physical strength and abilities. Yoga can increase strength by building muscle and endurance. Yoga can also help with breathing because we practice breathing techniques during yoga sessions.

Further, yoga helps significantly with flexibility and balance. Experts find that practicing yoga for just 15-30 minutes every day can show significant results. Through practicing mindfulness and focusing on your body, yoga can even promote healthy eating habits.
